| The Miniatures |

Tall grass, dewdrops, mushrooms, white moths… moments in miniature, unfolding quietly in the wild grass around us.

When I go for a walk, I like to “inspect” the wild grass along the way.

The key to this “inspection” is to crouch down and look closely. If I don’t, the grass is easily reduced to nothing more than a flat patch of green. But once I crouch down and let my gaze slip between the stems, I become smaller, and my senses grow sharper. The blades of grass expand into a jungle, whispering with the sound of friction and growth. Low wildflowers turn into tiny figures rising from the ground, busy stretching, chatting, and withering. Beneath the wide umbrella caps of mushrooms hide all kinds of jungle giants — slugs, spiders, crickets, pink moths, and ladybirds. Beads of dew hang everywhere, and at some moment, there will be a local rain shower.

What appears at first glance to be a dull and silent patch of weeds is, in fact, a place where many things are happening at once.

When I crouch down, it feels as if I’ve received an invitation from these small beings. There’s always a quiet thrill in my heart — the pleasure of sharing a secret, and a sense of reverence.

Friends are like stars. Each of them once shines into my life but can only stay with me for a time.
Sometimes I am too greedy, trying to keep them forever. But the only way is to have them in my memory.
